Tarzan Returns to Atari 2600!
Computer gaming history is littered with tales of fabled lost hardware and software. Some of them are very famous such as the E.T. cartridges buried in a desert landfill or the few prototype SNES CD-ROM drives that will probably never see the light of day. One legendary piece of software that has been lost since 1983 is Tarzan for the Atari 2600.
This game was originally developed by Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc. and released by Datasoft for the Atari 2600 console. Unfortunately, due to poor sales and lukewarm reception, Tarzan quickly fell into obscurity and was eventually discontinued, leaving only a handful of copies in the wild.
Decades later, the team at Atarimania, a website dedicated to preserving the history of Atari games, stumbled upon a prototype copy of Tarzan for the Atari 2600. They painstakingly restored the game to its former glory, fixing bugs and enhancing gameplay elements to make it more enjoyable for modern audiences.
Now, after nearly 40 years, Tarzan is back on the Atari 2600, ready to swing through the jungle once again. The game features updated graphics, smoother controls, and improved audio, making it a must-have for any retro gaming enthusiast.
Are you excited to see Tarzan return to the Atari 2600? What other lost games would you like to see revived for modern platforms? Share your thoughts and nostalgia for the golden age of gaming in this thread!
